Casio F-91W (Module 593)
Casio F-91W (Module 593)

Hello fellow Casio watch enthusiasts. I hope you are all well.
I say famous as this watch has it's own Wikipedia page. Not many watches can boast of that but, it's not all good news. Please follow the link below.
After 3 decades plus of owning Casio watches, this has to be one of the greatest Casio's I have never owned until now. The watch was bought for my son's 11th birthday, but he thought he had lost it. Three years later, it has turned up in his Mum's handbag and it's still running. However, I can see from the display, the battery (CR2016) is due to be replaced very soon. As my son had decided (a while ago it seems) not to wear a watch, I will add this to my personal collection. If he decides he needs a watch, it is always here, safe and sound in my collection ready to be returned. At this I point in time, the watch (black resin) is currently sold for around £10. For the money, it is the best around. There are also many metal and coloured versions available, however you can expect to pay a lot more for the variants. That being said, there are still many upgrades available for the standard F-91W and at reasonable prices.
As you can see, the watch has some light scratching but nothing too bad. There's still plenty of life in this watch, so I will keep it safe. Considering my son had worn it for a year at his junior school, it's weathered quite well. Also, it had sat in the bottom of mum's handbag, and we all know women's handbags are like cement mixers. Nothing that ever goes in, comes out looking the same. I am sure all women's handbags are the same.
From another angle the scratches aren't as visible. As I stated earlier, the LCD is looking a little faint, so I believe a battery (CR2016) replacement will be needed soon. To be fair the watch could do with a deep clean to remove the debris and grime away. I may also try and remove the scratches from the display glass using some super fine cutting polish.
As you can see from the rear cover, the watch has the 593 module fitted. The back case is stainless steel and secured with 4 small screws. The watch is water proof which depends on the "VARIANT MODEL" of each watch. Using the official Casio wording, "this watch is certified 'waterproof' to 30 meters". However, the International Standards Organisation (ISO) will only certify the watch as 'splash proof' and is NOT suitable for showering, swimming etc. As you can see, the stainless steel back has also sustained damage from the handbag (handbag rash) ordeal. In fact I think the damage may be worse than the front screen.
In the above picture, you can see the ends of the spring bars holding the strap in position. Therefore, to change the strap on this particular Casio watch, a pin pusher tool is required. I have seen this method used on Casio watches before, but not that often.
Above is a picture of an F-91W displaying the name CASIo and is proof that the watch is in fact a genuine Casio product and not a fake. This function can be achieved by holding the button on the right for 3 seconds, it will then (should) display CASIo.
When the watch was rediscovered, I couldn't remember it being so small so I have put it along side my DBC-32 for a comparison. Yes, I should have used something more related, but it was at hand at the time. As the watch has been manufactured from 1989, it was designed to be as small as possible and I personally love it. It's very light and quite unnoticeable on the wrist.
The watch is also very slim and fits my small wrist perfectly and to be very honest I am falling in love with it. Yes, the strap may only last 3 years but the whole watch only cost £10. It also has all the functions you'll ever need in my humble opinion. Yes the backlight isn't brilliant but the F-91W has the loudest alarm sound I have ever heard from a Casio watch and believe me, I have had many Casio watches over the decades. Yes it's no G-Shock but it never claimed to be one but, it's still a tough and hard against wear watch.
The watch and design have been with us for around 33 years, yet it is only in recent years Casio has been producing subtle variants of the watch such as the light blue version above at no extra cost. Since then, the already popular watch has undergone a fashion explosion and is available in with many other upgrades and the price tags to prove.
Above is a silver and white version with what is called a "skeleton" see through strap. I doubt this particular F-91W is £10, it will be more to the tune of £50-60.
The above F-91W has been fitted with a pure black glass front, omitting all the details apart from the Casio logo!! That looks awesome to me and is a very unique watch, possibly only one of a kind.
Functions of the Casio F-91W and how to use them.
I will be adding the functions and descriptions very soon so please stay tuned.
Take care fellow Casio Watch enthusiasts.
